If you sell rice by the kilo, a price per ton doesn’t help you much. You need the jasmine rice price per kg wholesale, so you can work out your margin, set your shelf price and compare suppliers on the same basis. That’s what this guide does. We’ll show you how a per-kg price is built, what the numbers look like right now, and what we sell, with full specs.
We’re De Thai Products 1989 Company Limited, a rice miller and exporter in Thailand. We sell Thai Hom Mali rice and Thai jasmine rice (Pathumthani fragrant rice) to wholesalers, distributors, Asian grocery chains and supermarkets around the world, in bags from 1kg up to 50kg. We quote in US dollars per metric ton, but most of our customers turn that into a per-kg figure the moment they get our offer. So let’s do the same here.

The Jasmine Rice Price Per Kg Wholesale, in Simple Numbers
Rice is traded internationally in US dollars per metric ton. One metric ton is 1,000kg, so dividing by 1,000 gives you the per-kg price at the mill gate. Here’s how recent FOB prices from Thailand look when you do that.
| Grade | FOB per ton (approx.) | FOB per kg (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Thai jasmine rice, Pathumthani fragrant, 5% broken | 620 to 780 USD | 0.62 to 0.78 USD |
| Thai Hom Mali rice, 92% purity | 1,100 to 1,150 USD | 1.10 to 1.15 USD |
| Thai Hom Mali rice, 100% grade | above 92% grade | quoted per crop |
These are FOB prices, meaning the rice loaded on a ship in Thailand. They’re a guide to where the market has been in recent months, not a firm offer. Every quote we send carries its own date. The Thai Rice Exporters Association publishes weekly reference prices if you want to track the market yourself.
The jasmine rice price per kg wholesale buyers actually pay in their own country will be higher than these figures, because freight, duty and local costs get added. We’ll go through those below.

From Mill Price to Your Wholesale Price
The jasmine rice price per kg wholesale that ends up on your price list is built in layers. Here’s what gets added on top of the FOB figure.
- Sea freight. A 20ft container holds about 25,000kg of bagged rice. Divide the freight cost by 25,000 to get freight per kg.
- Insurance. Usually a small fraction of the cargo value.
- Port and terminal charges at your end.
- Import duty and taxes, which vary hugely from country to country.
- Customs broker and any inspection or testing fees.
- Trucking from the port to your warehouse.
- Your warehouse, handling, and finance costs.
- Your margin.
Here’s a worked example with made-up but realistic numbers, just to show the method. Say the FOB price is 700 dollars a ton, which is 0.70 a kg. If freight to your port costs 2,000 dollars per container, that’s 0.08 a kg. Add, say, 0.01 for insurance and 0.04 for port and broker charges. Before duty, you’re at about 0.83 a kg landed. Your duty and local costs come next, and only you and your broker can work those out properly.
Our post on FOB vs CIF rice price shows a full costing. If you’d rather we handle shipping, we can quote CFR or CIF to your port and give you a delivered jasmine rice price per kg wholesale figure up to your port.

How Bag Size Changes the Price Per Kg
The rice inside a 1kg bag and a 50kg bag can be exactly the same. But the jasmine rice price per kg wholesale buyers pay will be different, because small bags cost more to make, fill and pack.
| Packing | Effect on price per kg | Who usually buys it |
|---|---|---|
| 50kg PP woven bag | Lowest | Wholesalers, markets, food factories |
| 25kg bag | Slightly higher | Restaurants, cash-and-carry |
| 10kg and 5kg bags | Higher | Asian grocers, family buyers |
| 1kg and 2kg packs | Highest | Supermarket shelves |
| Vacuum or private label packs | Higher again | Retail brands |
So when you compare a jasmine rice price per kg wholesale offer from two suppliers, make sure they’ve quoted the same bag. A 50kg price and a 5kg price aren’t comparable. For larger sacks, our post on Thai Hom Mali rice 25kg and 50kg bags has more detail.

Why Hom Mali Costs Almost Double
Buyers new to Thai rice are often surprised that Hom Mali can cost nearly twice as much per kg as Pathumthani. There are good reasons.
Hom Mali grows once a year in the rainy season, mostly in the northeast. Yields are lower. The aroma is stronger and lasts longer. And it’s protected by Thai standards, with a purity test and certificate from the Department of Foreign Trade for exports.
Pathumthani fragrant rice is grown in the central region, often more than once a year, with bigger yields. It still smells and tastes like jasmine rice, just lighter. If your customers want Hom Mali on the label, you’ll pay the higher jasmine rice price per kg wholesale for it. If they just want good jasmine rice at a fair price, Pathumthani is often the better buy. Our comparison of Pathumthani fragrant rice vs Hom Mali rice explains the difference in more depth.
What Pushes the Jasmine Rice Price Per Kg Wholesale Up or Down
The per-kg price moves for the same reasons the per-ton price does.
- Paddy prices paid to Thai farmers.
- The Thai baht against the US dollar. A stronger baht makes Thai rice dearer in dollars.
- Crop year. New crop Hom Mali costs more than old crop.
- Demand from big buyers in Asia and the Middle East.
- Prices from competing origins like Vietnam and Cambodia.
- Freight rates, which can swing a lot on some routes.
Freight is the one people forget. When shipping rates jump, the landed jasmine rice price per kg wholesale buyers pay can rise even if the rice itself hasn’t changed in price.
6 Proven Tips to Lower Your Cost Per Kg
- Buy full containers. Freight per kg drops sharply when you fill the box.
- Mix grades in one container rather than ordering small amounts from several suppliers.
- Choose 25kg or 50kg bags for food service and repack locally for retail if that’s cheaper in your country.
- Use Pathumthani for value lines and save Hom Mali for premium shelves.
- Order regularly so we can plan milling and hold good lots for you.
- Check if your country has a trade agreement with Thailand that lowers duty, and ask us for the right certificate of origin.
Each of these can take a few cents off the jasmine rice price per kg wholesale cost you end up paying. Across a container of 25,000kg, a few cents a kilo is real money.
How to Compare Two Offers Fairly
Put both offers side by side and check these points before you compare the jasmine rice price per kg wholesale figure:
- Same grade and same purity?
- Same broken percentage and moisture limit?
- Same crop year?
- Same bag size and type?
- Same Incoterm, FOB, CFR or CIF, and same port?
- Same inspection terms?
If any of those differ, adjust before you decide. A cheap offer with old crop rice or a weak purity spec isn’t a bargain. Our guide on how to identify genuine Thai Hom Mali rice helps you spot blends.
Minimum Order and Container Loads
We sell by the container. One 20ft box takes about 25 tons, and you can split it between grades and bag sizes. If you’re a smaller wholesaler, that might be several months of stock, so plan storage carefully. Read Thai rice minimum order quantity and how many tons of rice fit in a 20ft container for the details.
Some wholesalers team up with another buyer in their city to share a container. That can work well, as long as both agree on the grade split and payment before we book.
Should You Buy Retail Packs or Repack Locally?
This is a question we get a lot from wholesalers who supply shops. Do you buy 5kg and 1kg bags packed in Thailand, or bring in 50kg sacks and repack them yourself?
Packing in Thailand is usually cheaper on labour, and the rice is sealed soon after milling, which helps keep the aroma. You also get a finished, branded bag that can go straight to a shop. The downside is that small bags take up a bit more space, and printed bags need to be ordered weeks ahead.
Repacking locally gives you more control. You can pack exactly the sizes your customers want, when they want them, and change labels quickly. But you need a clean packing room, staff, a sealing machine and the right food safety approvals in your country. Labour costs in your city may also be much higher than in Thailand.
For most of our customers, the answer is a mix. They buy their best-selling retail size packed by us and bring in 25kg or 50kg sacks for food service and for any odd sizes. Work out the jasmine rice price per kg wholesale cost both ways before you decide. Sometimes the difference is a few cents, sometimes it’s much more.
Samples and Quality Checks
Always cook samples before you agree a jasmine rice price per kg wholesale deal. Smell the rice when you lift the lid, taste it warm and again after it cools. Good jasmine rice stays soft and fragrant. Rice that hardens fast or has little smell won’t sell well at a premium price.
Before loading, our lab checks moisture, broken grains, chalky and yellow kernels, and purity. Then an independent inspection company samples the rice as it’s loaded and issues a quality and weight certificate. You can read more on our quality control page.
Payment and Documents
For a first order, most buyers pay a 30% deposit by bank transfer and the balance against a copy of the bill of lading. We also accept letters of credit at sight. Every shipment includes the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, phytosanitary and fumigation certificates, and the inspection certificate. Hom Mali shipments also come with the Thai Hom Mali rice certificate. See rice export documents for the full list.
Selling Jasmine Rice at a Profit
Once you know your landed jasmine rice price per kg wholesale cost, setting your own price list is easier. Most wholesalers we work with price by bag, not by kilo, because that’s how their customers buy. They round to a clean number per bag and keep a small buffer for exchange rate moves between booking and arrival.
One thing we’d suggest: keep some stock of both grades. Customers who come in for cheap jasmine rice will sometimes trade up to Hom Mali if it’s sitting right next to it on the shelf, especially around festivals.
Who Buys From Us
Our wholesale customers include importers supplying Asian grocery stores, supermarket chains buying under their own label, restaurant suppliers and food manufacturers. If you supply restaurants, see bulk jasmine rice for restaurants. If you want your own brand, see private label Thai Hom Mali rice.
Why the Same Rice Costs Different Amounts in Different Countries
We ship the same Hom Mali to buyers on several continents, and the jasmine rice price per kg wholesale each of them ends up paying can be very different. The rice costs the same when it leaves our warehouse. What changes is everything after.
Distance matters first. Freight to a port a week away from Thailand is much cheaper than freight to a port six weeks away with a transshipment in between. Duty matters next. Some countries charge little or nothing on rice from Thailand, others charge a lot, and some add sales tax or VAT on top. Then there are local costs like port handling, inspection, trucking and warehouse rent, which are higher in some cities than others.
That’s why we never tell a buyer what their jasmine rice price per kg wholesale should be in their own market. We give you the mill price and, if you want, the price delivered to your port. Your broker can fill in the rest accurately.
Currency Timing
Most of our customers sell in their local currency but buy from us in US dollars. Between the day you confirm an order and the day you pay the balance, your currency can move. If it weakens, your landed jasmine rice price per kg wholesale cost goes up even though our price didn’t change.
Some importers handle this by paying the balance early, others by building a small buffer into their selling price. Larger buyers sometimes use forward contracts with their bank. It’s worth thinking about before you set your price list, especially if your currency has been moving a lot.

Storage Costs Add Up
A container of rice doesn’t sell overnight. If it takes three months to move 25 tons, you’re paying for warehouse space, insurance, and the cost of your money tied up in stock for all that time. Spread across 25,000kg, that might only be a cent or two per kilo, but it’s real.
Storage also affects quality. Jasmine rice slowly loses its smell after milling, and warm, damp warehouses speed that up. Keep bags on pallets, off the floor and away from walls, and sell older stock first. Fresh-smelling rice holds its price. Tired rice ends up discounted, which pushes your true jasmine rice price per kg wholesale cost up.
A Cheaper Option: Broken Jasmine Rice
If you have customers who care about taste and smell but not about whole grains, broken jasmine rice is worth a look. It’s the same fragrant rice, just pieces broken during milling, and it sells for a lot less per kg. Food factories, porridge makers, rice flour mills and some restaurants use it.
It won’t replace whole grain jasmine rice on a retail shelf, but it can help you offer a lower price point. Read broken jasmine rice uses and price for more.
Questions Worth Asking Any Supplier
Before you agree to anyone’s jasmine rice price per kg wholesale offer, including ours, ask these:
- Are you the mill, or are you buying from one?
- Which crop year is this rice from, and when was it milled?
- Can you send a cooked-test sample from the actual lot?
- Which inspection company will check the rice at loading?
- Which documents come with the shipment, and are any extra?
- How long is your price valid?
- What happens if the inspection result doesn’t match the contract?
A good supplier answers all of these quickly and without fuss. If the answers are vague, the low jasmine rice price per kg wholesale figure on the offer probably comes with a catch.
How Often Should You Order?
This depends on how fast you sell. A rough rule many of our customers follow is to order often enough that no bag sits in their warehouse for more than three or four months. For a busy distributor that might mean a container every month. For a smaller wholesaler it might be every quarter.
Ordering regularly also helps on price. When we know your shipments are coming, we can plan milling, hold good paddy for you and quote a steadier jasmine rice price per kg wholesale level from one order to the next.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the jasmine rice price per kg wholesale right now?
At the mill, roughly 0.62 to 0.78 US dollars per kg for Pathumthani fragrant rice and about 1.10 to 1.15 for Hom Mali 92%, FOB Thailand. Your landed price will be higher after freight, duty and local costs.
Do you quote in kilos?
We quote per metric ton, which is the standard in the rice trade. Divide by 1,000 for the per-kg figure.
Can I buy one pallet?
We sell by the container, but you can mix grades and bag sizes inside one container.
Is the price the same for 1kg and 50kg bags?
No. Small bags cost more per kg because of packing and labour.
How long does rice keep?
Up to 24 months in cool, dry storage, though jasmine aroma is best in the first months after milling.
