Thai Jasmine Rice Supplier: Best Guide for Importers

Thai jasmine rice suppliers worldwide

Choosing a Thai jasmine rice supplier is one of the most important decisions a rice importer makes. Jasmine rice is a premium product. Buyers pay for the aroma, the soft texture and the name, and they notice quickly when any of those are missing. We are a Thai rice exporter, and we supply Thai jasmine rice, Thai Hom Mali rice and organic jasmine rice by the container to buyers worldwide.

This guide is for importers, wholesalers, supermarkets and food service buyers. It explains what a Thai jasmine rice supplier should offer, the grades we sell, how to check quality, how ordering and shipping work, and the questions to ask before you sign.

What a Thai Jasmine Rice Supplier Should Offer

A good Thai jasmine rice supplier does much more than send a price. Before you order, you should expect:

  • A clear grade. Hom Mali or Pathumthani fragrant rice, with the purity and broken level written down.
  • The current crop. Jasmine rice loses aroma as it ages. The crop year should be in the contract.
  • Real samples. From the stock that will be loaded, not a special batch.
  • Independent inspection. Quality and weight checked at loading by a known inspection company.
  • The right bags. From 1kg retail packs to 50kg bags, with private label if you want it.
  • Full export documents. Ready for your customs and food authorities.
  • Straight answers. If a price, date or spec is not possible, a good supplier says so.

The Thai Jasmine Rice Grades We Supply

“Jasmine rice” covers more than one product. As a Thai jasmine rice supplier, we offer four fragrant grades, all grown in Thailand:

GradeWhat it isBest for
Thai Hom Mali ricePremium jasmine from KDML 105 and RD15 varieties, 92% Hom Mali purity minimumPremium retail, restaurants, branded packs
Thai Hom Mali 100% Grade AThe top Hom Mali grade, highest purityTop-end supermarkets and gift packs
Thai jasmine rice (Pathumthani fragrant)Everyday Thai fragrant rice, long grain and softWholesale, food service, value retail
Organic jasmine riceCertified organic Thai jasmine riceHealth food shops, organic shelves

Thai Hom Mali has the strongest aroma and the highest price. Pathumthani fragrant rice gives a soft, fragrant rice at a lower cost. If you are not sure which suits your market, read our guide to Thai Hom Mali vs jasmine rice, or ask us for samples of both.

How to Check a Thai Jasmine Rice Supplier

The jasmine rice trade has more than its share of mixed and old rice. Before you commit to any Thai jasmine rice supplier, check these:

  • Company documents. A registered Thai export company with an address you can verify.
  • Crop year. Ask which crop the rice is from, and get it in writing.
  • Purity. For Hom Mali, ask how purity is tested and whether a Thai Hom Mali certificate can be supplied.
  • Samples. Cook them side by side with what sells in your market.
  • Inspection. The supplier should welcome an independent inspector at loading.
  • Payment. A letter of credit or payment against documents, never 100% up front to a supplier you do not know.

The Thai government protects the Thai Hom Mali name with an official certification mark, managed by the Department of Foreign Trade. If you are paying for Hom Mali, it is worth asking about it.

How to Test Jasmine Rice Samples

  • Smell the raw rice. Fresh jasmine rice has a clear, sweet, pandan-like smell. Weak or musty smell means old or poorly stored rice.
  • Look at the grains. Long, slender, translucent white grains. Few chalky, yellow or broken grains.
  • Cook it. Use a little less water than for ordinary long grain rice. Good jasmine rice cooks soft, slightly sticky and glossy, with a strong aroma.
  • Leave it to cool. Good jasmine rice stays soft for hours. Old or mixed rice goes hard quickly.
  • Keep a reference sample. Seal part of the approved sample. It becomes the standard for the shipment.

Shipping and Order Size

Most orders start with one 20ft container, which holds around 25 metric tons. See how many tons of rice fit in a 20ft container. We can mix grades in one container, for example Hom Mali and Pathumthani fragrant rice, so you can test both in your market.

We quote FOB Thailand, or CFR and CIF to your nearest port. Allow a few weeks for bag printing, milling and loading, plus the voyage. Freight rates change often, so we confirm the freight part of a CFR or CIF price when we book.

How to Order From Us

  • Send us your request. Grade, tons, bag size, destination port, and FOB, CFR or CIF.
  • Get a quote and spec sheet. Usually within a day.
  • Test samples. From the real stock we would load.
  • Sign the contract. Spec, crop year, price, bags, inspection, documents, payment and shipping window.
  • Arrange payment. Letter of credit, or deposit and balance against documents.
  • Production and inspection. We pack your order, and an independent inspector checks it at loading.
  • Documents. Copies sent right away, originals by courier or through the bank.

Documents We Provide

Every shipment comes with a commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate, fumigation certificate, and a quality and weight certificate from an independent inspector. For Hom Mali, we can also arrange Thai Hom Mali certification. See our rice export documents checklist.

Price

Jasmine rice prices follow the Thai crop, the baht, demand and freight. Hom Mali costs more than Pathumthani fragrant rice, and organic costs more again. For current ranges, see Thai jasmine rice price per ton and Thai Hom Mali rice price per ton.

Keeping Jasmine Rice Fresh

The aroma is what your customers pay for, so look after it:

  • Buy the current crop and sell it within months, not years
  • Store bags in a cool, dry, shaded warehouse, on pallets
  • Keep it away from strong smells such as fuel, spices and chemicals
  • Sell the oldest stock first
