We’re a Thai broken rice exporter selling broken rice straight from our mills to importers, wholesalers, breweries, food factories and feed makers around the world. We ship white rice 100% broken in A1 Super and A1 Special grades, white rice 25% broken, broken jasmine and Hom Mali, parboiled 100% broken and broken glutinous rice. Packing runs from 25 kg and 50 kg bags to jumbo bags and bulk vessels. Below you’ll find specs for every grade, how each one is used, packing, shipping, documents and how to order.

Broken rice gets a bad name it doesn’t deserve. It’s the same rice from the same paddy, it just broke during milling. In many countries it’s the rice people actually prefer to cook with, and in many factories it’s the only rice that makes sense. As a Thai broken rice exporter, we treat it as a real product with its own specs, not as waste.

Who We Are
We’re De Thai Products 1989 Company Limited. We’ve exported Thai rice since 1989. We buy paddy from farms across Thailand, mill and sort it, and pack it for export. Every grade we mill produces some broken rice, and we grade and sell those broken fractions properly.
You can see our whole range on the products page. Buying from us means buying from a Thai broken rice exporter that runs the milling and sorting itself, so we know exactly where every bag came from.
What We Sell
Here’s the range we ship as a Thai broken rice exporter. All of it is current crop Thai rice unless you ask for something else.
- White rice 100% broken, A1 Super. Larger broken pieces, cleaner and more even. Popular for cooking, especially in West African and Caribbean markets. Full details on our Thai white rice 100% broken page.
- White rice 100% broken, A1 Special. Smaller pieces, cheaper. Used for brewing, flour, noodles and feed.
- White rice 25% broken. A mix of whole grains and brokens, a good budget table rice. See white rice 25% broken for sale.
- Broken jasmine and Hom Mali rice. Fragrant broken rice, very popular in some Asian and African markets. Our broken jasmine rice article explains more.
- Parboiled rice 100% broken. Firm, holds up well in long cooking. See the parboiled 100% broken page.
- Broken glutinous rice. For flour, rice wine and snacks. We cover it in detail on our broken glutinous rice supplier page.

We grade to Thai export standards. Our rice standard page explains the grading system, and our article on what 5% broken means covers the basics of broken percentages.
What Broken Rice Is, and Why It Matters
During milling, the husk and bran are removed and the grain is polished. Some grains crack along the way. Machines then sort the rice by size. Whole grains go into the premium grades, and pieces go into broken grades by size.
In Thai grading, larger broken pieces are often called A1 Super. Smaller ones are A1 Special. The very smallest fragments, sometimes called C1 or brewers’ rice, go mostly to brewing and feed. Size matters because it changes how the rice cooks and what it’s good for. The Wikipedia article on broken rice gives more background.
A careful Thai broken rice exporter keeps these sizes separate. Mixing them makes the rice cook unevenly and leaves your customers unhappy.
Who Buys From a Thai Broken Rice Exporter
Importers of cooking rice
In much of West Africa, broken rice is the rice people grow up eating. Senegal’s thieboudienne, for example, is traditionally made with broken rice, and Gambia, Mauritania, Guinea and others buy a lot of it too. Broken rice is also popular in parts of the Caribbean and Latin America. A1 Super and broken jasmine are the usual choices here. We cover the Caribbean trade on our cheap broken rice wholesale Caribbean page.
Breweries
Many beer and spirit makers use rice as an adjunct. Broken rice is cheap and has plenty of starch. Breweries usually buy A1 Special or small brokens in 50 kg bags or bulk.
Food factories
Rice flour, rice noodles, rice paper, baby food, crackers and porridge all start with broken rice. Factories want steady starch, low moisture and clean rice. Our rice supplier for food manufacturers page has more.
Feed and pet food makers
Pet food makers use broken rice as a gentle carbohydrate. Livestock and fish feed mills use it as an energy source. They usually buy the smallest, cheapest fractions.
Food aid and government buyers
Broken rice shows up regularly in government tenders and food aid programmes because it feeds more people per dollar. See our page on rice supplier for government tenders.
Why Buy Broken Rice From Thailand
Vietnam, India, Pakistan and Myanmar all export broken rice, and sometimes they’re cheaper. So why buy from a Thai broken rice exporter? A few reasons our customers give us.
First, consistency. Thai mills are large and well equipped, so broken sizes and moisture are steady from lot to lot. Second, cleanliness. Thai broken rice is usually well sorted with low foreign matter. Third, variety. Thailand is one of the few places where you can buy broken jasmine, broken Hom Mali, broken parboiled and broken sticky rice from the same exporter, in the same container. And fourth, paperwork. Thai exporters are used to strict markets and get documents right.
Price isn’t everything. If a cheaper broken rice has more stones or more damaged grains, you pay for it in complaints. Our Thai rice vs Vietnamese rice article goes into the comparison in more detail.
Packing Options
| Pack | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 50 kg | PP woven, liner optional | Most common for broken rice |
| 25 kg | PP woven or BOPP printed | Wholesale and branded packs |
| 5 kg and 10 kg | BOPP or PE printed | Retail in cooking rice markets |
| Jumbo bag | About 1 MT | Breweries and factories |
| Bulk vessel | Loose in hold | Large tenders and food aid |
We can print your brand on bags, add the language your market needs, and mark lot numbers and production dates on every bag. If you’re not sure which bag suits your route, ask us.

| East and Southeast Asia | 5 to 15 days |
| South Asia | 10 to 20 days |
| Middle East | 16 to 28 days |

A 20ft container takes about 25 to 26 MT in 25 kg or 50 kg bags. Broken rice packs a little denser than whole grain. Bulk vessels make sense from about 5,000 MT. Our page on how many tons of rice fit in a 20ft container has more.
Documents
Every shipment from us comes with:
- Commercial invoice and packing list
- Bill of lading
- Certificate of origin, with FTA forms where they apply
- Phytosanitary certificate
- Fumigation certificate
- Quality and weight certificate from an independent surveyor
- Lab reports, halal certificate or other papers on request
Some destinations need pre-shipment inspection or a certificate of conformity. We arrange these through the approved inspection company. Our rice export documents guide explains each one.
Pricing
As a Thai broken rice exporter we quote FOB Thai port or CFR and CIF to your port. Price depends on grade, broken size, crop, packing, quantity and freight. Broken rice prices often move differently from whole grain prices, because they depend on how much whole rice the mills are milling and on demand from feed and brewing buyers.
The Thai Rice Exporters Association publishes weekly prices for Thai A1 Super broken rice, which is a useful reference. The FAO rice market pages give a wider picture of world prices. Our Thai 100% broken rice price per ton article explains how we put a price together, and the FOB vs CIF guide helps with terms. The International Chamber of Commerce publishes the official Incoterms.
Payment is usually a T/T deposit with balance against copy documents, or an irrevocable L/C at sight.
Quality Control
As a Thai broken rice exporter, we test moisture and purity at intake. After milling, we check broken size, damaged and chalky grains, colour and foreign matter. Colour sorters take out dark grains and stones. Before packing we sample again, and an independent surveyor checks every lot at loading. We keep retained samples for a year. Our quality control page has more, and our article on what sortexed rice is explains colour sorting.
Broken rice needs this care more than whole rice. Dust, stones and insects collect more easily in small pieces. A Thai broken rice exporter that skips the sorting will save money, and you’ll pay for it later.
Working as a Thai Broken Rice Exporter Importers Rely On
Importers of broken rice often sell into very price-sensitive markets. Margins are thin, so a late ship or a bad lot can wipe out the profit on a whole contract. What they need from a Thai broken rice exporter is steady quality, on-time loading and honest updates.
We hold broken stock for repeat buyers and keep the broken size and sorting settings the same. If something changes, we tell you before loading and send a sample.
Thai Broken Rice Exporter for West African Markets
West African buyers are some of our most experienced customers. They know exactly what good broken rice looks like and they check carefully. A1 Super, broken jasmine and broken Hom Mali are the most popular grades. Many buyers want 25 kg or 50 kg bags with their brand printed in French or English. We’ve written more on the region in our parboiled rice import to West Africa article.
Thai Broken Rice Exporter for Breweries and Factories
For brewers and factories, broken size matters less than steady starch, low moisture and clean rice. A1 Special or small brokens in jumbo bags are the usual order. We can set up monthly contracts so your plant never runs short.
Thai Broken Rice Exporter for Pet Food and Feed Mills
Pet food makers like rice because it’s easy to digest and gentle on sensitive animals. They usually want clean, white broken rice with low moisture and tight limits on mycotoxins. We can test for aflatoxin and other contaminants at an accredited lab before loading and send the report with the shipping papers.
Feed mills for poultry, pigs and fish care mostly about price and starch. They buy the smallest fractions, often in bulk or jumbo bags. As a Thai broken rice exporter, we can offer these fractions at a good price when mills are busy, and we’ll tell you honestly when stock is short.
Mixed Containers and Multiple Grades
Not every buyer needs a full container of one grade. Plenty of our customers sell several types of broken rice to different customers. A wholesaler might want A1 Super for the cooking rice market, broken jasmine for restaurants and a few tons of broken sticky rice for a flour mill down the road.
We can load several grades in one container, each in its own clearly marked bags. That lets you test a new grade without committing to a full container of it. It also keeps your stock fresh, because you’re not sitting on 25 tons of something that sells slowly. Just tell us the split and we’ll quote each line separately.
How to Check a Broken Rice Sample
When a sample arrives from any Thai broken rice exporter, check these things before you sign anything.
- Look at it in daylight. It should be white and even, with very few dark or yellow pieces.
- Smell it. Fresh rice smells of nothing much. Musty or sour means old or damp stock.
- Spread 100 g on a white tray. Count stones, husk and other foreign matter.
- Check broken size. Compare the pieces against what you were promised. A1 Super pieces should be noticeably larger than A1 Special.
- Cook it. Cook it the way your customers will. That’s the test that matters most.
- Measure moisture. A simple meter will tell you if it’s at 14% or under.
If it passes, ask for a sample drawn from the actual lot before loading, and put the spec in the contract.
Broken Jasmine Rice From a Thai Broken Rice Exporter
Broken jasmine and broken Hom Mali deserve a special mention. They keep much of the fragrance of the whole grain and cook soft, at a much lower price. They’re popular in West Africa, parts of Asia, and with restaurants and porridge makers everywhere. A Thai broken rice exporter is really the only source for proper broken Hom Mali, since the whole grain only grows in Thailand.
Storage Tips for Broken Rice
- Store bags on pallets in a cool, dry warehouse, away from walls.
- Use stock first in, first out.
- Keep it away from strong smells and chemicals.
- Check bags for insect activity every few weeks.
- Ask for PE liners if your port is humid.
Stored well, broken rice keeps for about a year without problems.
Seasonality
Thailand’s main harvest runs from about November to February, with a second crop in the middle of the year in irrigated areas. Broken stock builds up when mills are busy with the new crop, which is often when broken prices are at their most reasonable. Our Thai rice harvest season article explains the timing.

Common Problems and How We Avoid Them

- Stones and foreign matter. Cleaning and colour sorting before packing.
- Insects. Fumigation before loading and clean containers.
- Moisture damage. Drying to 14% or under, with liners on request.
- Short weight. Independent weight checks at loading.
- Wrong documents. We check papers against your bank and import rules before the ship sails.
Questions to Ask Any Exporter
- Do you mill and sort the broken rice yourself?
- Is it A1 Super or A1 Special, and can you show me the difference?
- What’s the foreign matter limit?
- Can I get a sample from the actual lot?
- Who inspects at loading?
- Can you mix broken grades in one container?
Any Thai broken rice exporter worth working with will answer all of these clearly.
7 Proven Tips for Choosing a Thai Broken Rice Exporter
- Know the grade you need. A1 Super for cooking, A1 Special for brewing and flour.
- Ask about broken size. It changes how the rice cooks.
- Check foreign matter. Stones in broken rice ruin your reputation.
- Insist on fumigation. Broken rice attracts insects.
- Use a surveyor. Independent checks protect both sides.
- Compare cooked rice, not just price. Cheap rice that cooks badly costs more in the end.
- Build a long relationship. Repeat buyers get stock held for them when supply is tight.
