Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale is our main line of business. We mill it in Thailand, bag it to your spec, and ship it by the container to buyers around the world. This guide covers what you get, what it costs to buy in bulk, and how to set up a wholesale order without wasting weeks on emails.
It’s written for people who buy rice by the ton: importers, distributors, repackers, supermarket buyers and food service companies. If you’re buying for a single restaurant, a lot of this still applies, but you’ll probably want to talk to a local distributor first.

What Thai Hom Mali Rice Wholesale Means in Practice
Wholesale rice is sold in volume, usually starting at one 20 foot container, which holds about 25 metric tons. Prices are quoted per metric ton, FOB a Thai port or delivered to your port.
For Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale, the rice itself is the same Hom Mali you’d find in a 1kg bag in a supermarket. The difference is how it’s packed, how it’s priced and how it’s shipped. You’re buying straight from the source, so you skip two or three layers of margin.
A short reminder of what the rice is, because it matters for pricing. Thai Hom Mali is Thailand’s fragrant long grain rice, grown from the KDML 105 and RD15 varieties. Outside Thailand it’s usually sold as jasmine rice. The Thai export standard says Hom Mali must be at least 92% pure. That’s the grade we sell.

Wholesale Grades We Offer
Not every buyer needs the top grade. We keep three options for Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale orders:
Premium grade
Broken under 3%, new crop, extra sorting. This is for retail brands that sell on looks and smell. It costs more because we sort out more rice to get there.
Standard grade
The spec in the table above. This is what most importers and distributors buy, and it’s what you’ll find in most Asian supermarkets abroad.
Food service grade
Same Hom Mali rice with a looser broken allowance. Restaurants and caterers don’t care much if a few grains are broken, since it all ends up in a pot. The price is lower and the taste is the same.
How Wholesale Pricing Works
We get asked for a single Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale price all the time. The problem is there isn’t one. The price depends on several things, and they change week to week.
- Paddy price. Hom Mali is grown once a year in the wet season. When the harvest is small, paddy costs more.
- Exchange rate. We buy paddy in baht and sell rice in dollars. A strong baht pushes the dollar price up.
- Crop year. New crop rice costs more than old crop.
- Grade. Lower broken means more sorting, which means more cost.
- Packing. Small retail bags and private label printing add cost per ton.
- Shipping term. FOB is cheapest on our side. CFR and CIF include freight and insurance to your port.
- Volume. Ten containers on a contract get better pricing than one.
This year Thai Hom Mali has traded well above other jasmine rice. The Nation, a Thai newspaper, reported that Cambodian jasmine was selling for up to US$400 a ton less. That gap is real and some buyers do switch. Others don’t, because their customers want the Thai rice and pay for it.
We break down the price in much more detail in our guide to Thai Hom Mali rice price per ton.
Thai Hom Mali Rice Wholesale Minimum Order and Container Loads
For Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale, our normal minimum is one 20 foot container.
A rough guide to what fits:
| Container | Bag size | Approximate load |
|---|---|---|
| 20 foot | 50kg bags | 25 metric tons |
| 20 foot | 25kg bags | 24 to 25 metric tons |
| 20 foot | 5kg or 10kg bags, in master bags or cartons | 20 to 23 metric tons |
| 40 foot | Any bag size | Usually 25 to 27 metric tons, because rice is heavy and weight limits apply before space runs out |
Small retail packs take more room per ton, which is why the load drops a little. The 40 foot container doesn’t double the weight because of road and ship weight limits, so most rice buyers stick with 20 foot boxes.
If you want to test the market with less than a full container, ask us. We sometimes combine buyers’ orders or ship a mixed container with other rice types.
Private Label for Wholesale Buyers
A lot of our Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale goes out in the buyer’s own bags. This is how supermarket own brands and many importers work.
What we need from you:
- Your artwork, or a brief if you want us to help design it
- The bag size and material, such as PP woven, PE, or laminated with a window
- Language and label rules for your country, like ingredients, net weight, importer address, barcodes and best before dates
- Your expected order volume, because printing plates have a minimum run
The first print run adds about two to three weeks. After that, we keep bags in stock for your repeat orders.
A tip from experience: check your label wording with your local food authority before you print 50,000 bags. A single missing line can mean a full reprint.
Documents That Come With a Wholesale Order
Every Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale shipment comes with the standard export set:
- Commercial invoice and packing list
- Bill of lading
- Certificate of origin
- Phytosanitary certificate
- Fumigation certificate
- Quality and weight certificate from an independent surveyor
- Hom Mali certificate from the Thai Department of Foreign Trade where needed
Extra documents like halal, a non-GMO letter, a lab test for pesticide residue or heavy metals can usually be arranged. Tell us your destination up front so there are no surprises at customs.
Shipping and Delivery Times
After we receive your deposit or LC, milling and packing take about two to three weeks for standard bags and a little longer for new private label bags.
Sea freight times vary. To give you a rough idea:
- East and Southeast Asia: 5 to 14 days
- Middle East: 2 to 3 weeks
- Europe: 4 to 5 weeks
- North America: 4 to 6 weeks
- Africa: 3 to 6 weeks depending on the port
We quote on standard Incoterms, most often FOB, CFR or CIF. First time buyers usually find CIF easiest, since we take care of the ship and insurance.
Payment Terms for Thai Hom Mali Rice Wholesale
For Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale, the usual options are:
- Letter of credit at sight. The bank pays us when we show the shipping documents. Safe for both sides, slightly more paperwork.
- TT with deposit. Usually 30% before milling and 70% against a copy of the bill of lading.
- CAD (cash against documents). Used with regular buyers we know well.
We don’t ask new buyers to pay 100% up front before anything exists. If a supplier asks you to do that, be careful.
Who Buys Thai Hom Mali Rice Wholesale From Us
Our buyers fall into a few groups:
- Importers and distributors who supply shops and restaurants in their country
- Supermarket chains buying own brand rice
- Repacking plants that buy 50kg or jumbo bags and repack locally
- Food manufacturers making ready meals, frozen fried rice, rice crackers and baby food
- Asian grocery wholesalers in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia and the Americas
Each group needs something a little different, but they all want the same thing in the end. Rice that matches the sample, arrives on time and sells.
How to Tell If a Wholesale Offer Is Real
There are a lot of cheap Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale offers floating around trade sites. Some are fine. Some are not. A few things to check:
- Purity. Does the offer say 92% Hom Mali? If it just says “jasmine,” ask.
- Crop year. No crop year usually means old rice.
- Company details. Can you see a real address, a mill or a warehouse? Can you visit?
- Payment. Is the supplier happy with LC or a deposit, or do they want everything up front?
- Inspection. Will they accept an independent surveyor at loading?
If an offer fails two or more of these, walk away. There’s always another container.
Where Our Wholesale Rice Is Grown
Hom Mali only grows well in certain places. Almost all of the rice we sell for Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale comes from the northeast of Thailand, the area Thai people call Isan. The provinces we buy from most are Surin, Roi Et, Buriram, Sisaket, Yasothon and Ubon Ratchathani.
Part of that region is a wide plain called Thung Kula Rong Hai. It used to be known as one of the driest, poorest farming areas in the country. The soil is sandy and a little salty, and the rain comes once a year. Strangely, that tough ground grows some of the most fragrant Hom Mali anywhere. Rice from there even has its own protected geographical indication.
Farmers plant in the rainy season, around July and August, and harvest from November into January. Hom Mali is sensitive to day length, so it only flowers when the days get shorter in autumn. That’s why there’s just one real crop a year, and why the harvest has such a big effect on the Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale price.
Quality Checks on Every Wholesale Lot
Buying in bulk means one bad lot can hurt. So every Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale order goes through the same checks:
- Paddy check on arrival. We test moisture and look at the grain before we accept it.
- Purity test. We check that the Hom Mali content is at least 92%.
- Milling checks. Broken, chalky and yellow kernels are measured after polishing and sorting.
- Moisture test before bagging. Every lot, every time.
- Cooking test. Our QC staff cook a sample and check smell, color and texture. It sounds basic, but machines can’t smell.
- Surveyor inspection at loading. An independent company checks weight and quality and issues the certificate.
You can read more about how we test on our quality control page.
Mistakes Wholesale Buyers Make
These cost buyers money year after year:
- Ordering too much on the first go. Start with one container. Learn how the rice sells in your market, then scale up.
- Forgetting the import permit. Some countries need a permit or a quota before the rice arrives. Get it sorted first.
- Skimping on the label check. A missing line on a private label bag can hold a container at customs.
- Not planning for Ramadan, Chinese New Year or other peak seasons. Demand jumps and so do freight rates. Order early.
- Buying the cheapest Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale offer without a sample. Always cook the sample.
Cooking Quality Your Customers Will Notice
It’s easy to get lost in numbers and forget why people buy Hom Mali in the first place. They buy it because it smells good and cooks soft.
Good Hom Mali should:
- Smell like pandan or popcorn when it’s cooking
- Cook soft and a little sticky, not mushy
- Stay white and glossy
- Taste slightly sweet
- Hold its texture for a few hours after cooking
The aroma comes from a natural compound called 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline, which fades slowly in storage. That’s why we push so hard on crop year. A Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale buyer who sells new crop rice gets repeat customers. One who sells old rice gets complaints.
A simple test when you get a sample: cook it with a 1 to 1.2 ratio of rice to water. Don’t add salt. Smell the pot when you lift the lid. You’ll know.
Storing Wholesale Rice Properly
Once your containers arrive, look after the rice. A few basics:
- Store on pallets, off the floor and away from walls
- Keep the warehouse cool, dry and ventilated
- Keep rice away from chemicals, fuel, spices or anything with a strong smell
- Sell oldest stock first
- Check for insects every few weeks, especially in warm climates
If you run a big warehouse in a hot country, plan to move Hom Mali within about 12 months to keep the aroma at its best.
Other Rice You Can Add to a Wholesale Order
Many of our buyers fill out their orders with other Thai rice. We supply:
- Thai jasmine and Pathumthani fragrant rice, a lower cost option
- Organic jasmine rice for health food shops
- Thai glutinous rice for sticky rice dishes and desserts
- White rice 5% broken for everyday use
- Parboiled rice for Middle Eastern and African markets
- Red cargo rice for whole grain lines
The full range is on our products page.
Thai Hom Mali Rice Wholesale vs Buying From a Local Distributor
Should you buy direct or through a distributor in your own country? It depends on your size.
Buy direct if:
- You can take at least one container at a time
- You have a warehouse
- You can handle import paperwork, or have a customs agent who can
- You want your own brand on the bag
Buy from a local distributor if:
- You need a few bags a week, not 25 tons a month
- You don’t want to deal with import permits
- Cash flow matters more than price per ton
Plenty of our Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale customers are the distributors that smaller buyers go to. It works well for everyone.
How Wholesale Accounts Usually Grow
A common pattern goes like this. An importer starts with a single 20 foot container of 25kg bags, mostly for restaurants. After a few orders, part of that volume moves to 5kg private label bags for shops. Over time it can grow to several containers a month, all Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale, with a mix of bag sizes.
Nothing about that growth is clever. The rice matches the sample, it arrives when promised, and when a problem comes up, like a bag print error, it gets fixed on the next load. That’s most of what wholesale rice comes down to.
When to Buy: A Year of Thai Hom Mali Rice Wholesale
Timing matters more than most new buyers think. Here’s roughly how the year goes from where we sit.
November to January. Harvest. New paddy arrives at the mills. Prices often ease a little as supply comes in, and this is when the first new crop rice is milled. If you want the strongest aroma, book for shipment from January onwards.
February to May. New crop rice is moving well. Most Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale contracts for the year get signed in this window. It’s a good time to lock in a price for regular shipments.
June to September. Paddy stocks shrink. Mills compete for what’s left, and prices can climb. Buyers who didn’t book earlier sometimes pay more here.
October. The market waits for the new harvest. Some buyers hold off, others buy enough to bridge the gap.
This pattern isn’t a rule. Floods, droughts, government programs and the baht can all shake it up. But if you plan your Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale buying around it, you’ll usually pay less and get fresher rice. Ask us each quarter what we’re seeing at the mills and we’ll tell you straight.
Repeat Orders and Standing Contracts
Once a buyer has had two or three good shipments, we usually suggest a standing arrangement. You tell us roughly how many containers you need each month or quarter, and we plan paddy buying and bag printing around it. Price is reviewed at agreed dates, so neither side gets caught out by a sudden move in the market.
It takes a lot of stress out of Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale. You stop chasing quotes every few weeks, your bags are already printed and waiting, and your containers leave on a steady schedule.
Checking Your First Wholesale Delivery
When your first container lands, check it before you sell a single bag. Count the bags against the packing list. Weigh ten or twenty at random, since short weight is easier to catch early. Open a few from different parts of the load and compare the rice with the sample you approved. Smell it, look at the grain, and cook a pot. Check the bag printing, batch codes and best before dates against your label rules. If something is off, take photos and tell us straight away, with the surveyor certificate to hand. Most issues are small and easy to sort out when they are raised quickly. Doing this every time is a simple habit that protects your Thai Hom Mali rice wholesale business.
