Who Buys Bulk Rice for Sale From Us
The people who buy bulk rice for sale from Thailand are a mixed lot. A family import business in a port city. A supermarket chain filling its own brand. A noodle factory. A ministry running a food reserve. They all need different things, so we don’t sell the same way to everyone.
- Importers and wholesalers want steady quality and a price that tracks the market fairly.
- Distributors often want mixed containers with two or three grades. See our guide for jasmine rice distributors.
- Restaurants and caterers buying through importers want 20 kg to 25 kg bags. See bulk jasmine rice for restaurants.
- Food factories want the same cooking result every batch. See rice for food manufacturers.
- Governments and aid agencies buy through tenders with strict specs. See rice for food aid programs.
Bag Sizes and Packing
Bulk rice for sale doesn’t always mean loose rice in a ship’s hold. Most of it goes in bags, and the bag matters more than people think. A weak bag tears at the port. A bag with no liner can pick up moisture on a long trip.
| Bag | Material | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 5 kg, 10 kg | Printed PE, BOPP or vacuum | Retail and supermarkets |
| 20 kg, 25 kg | PP woven or BOPP laminated, PE liner optional | Wholesale, restaurants |
| 45 kg, 50 kg | New PP woven, plain or printed | Wholesale, tenders, Africa |
| 1 MT jumbo bag | Big bag with liner | Factories, breweries |
| Loose bulk | Vessel hold | Large government tenders |
We print your brand, ours, or ship in neutral bags. Your logo, barcode, language and nutrition panel all go on. Private label adds about 10 to 15 days because the bags have to be printed first. If you’re building your own brand, read our notes on private label Thai Hom Mali rice.
How Much Bulk Rice Fits in a Container
This is one of the first questions buyers ask about bulk rice for sale, so here’s a simple guide. The exact number depends on the bag size and the grade.
| Container | Bag size | Approx. load |
|---|---|---|
| 20ft | 50 kg | 25 to 27 MT (500 to 540 bags) |
| 20ft | 25 kg | 25 to 26 MT (1,000 to 1,040 bags) |
| 20ft | 5 kg in master bags | About 22 to 24 MT |
| 40ft | 50 kg | Usually limited by weight, about 26 to 28 MT |
Rice is heavy, so a 40ft container often doesn’t carry much more than a 20ft. That’s why most bulk rice for sale moves in 20ft boxes. More detail in how many tons of rice fit in a 20ft container.
Bulk Rice for Sale: Prices
Prices for bulk rice for sale change every week, sometimes every day. Weather, government stock releases, currency moves and big tenders in places like the Philippines or Indonesia all push the market around. So we quote firm prices that are valid for a few days, not a year.
For a rough idea, here’s where our bulk rice for sale has been sitting in late 2026, FOB Thailand, per metric ton, in plain bags:
| Grade | Rough FOB range (USD/MT) |
|---|---|
| Thai Hom Mali 100% Grade A | 1,150 to 1,250 |
| Thai jasmine (Pathumthani) | 750 to 900 |
| White rice 5% broken | 440 to 480 |
| White rice 25% broken | 420 to 460 |
| White rice 100% broken A1 Super | 380 to 420 |
| Parboiled rice 5% broken sortexed | 450 to 490 |
| Glutinous rice 10% broken | 850 to 1,000 |
These are guide numbers only, and they’ll change. Your firm price also depends on bag type, printing, quantity and port. The full breakdown is in our rice wholesale price list 2026. If you want to understand FOB and CIF pricing, see FOB vs CIF rice price. For a wider view of world prices, the FAO rice market page is a good reference.
Payment and Terms
For bulk rice for sale, the usual terms are:
- T/T with a deposit (often 30%) and the balance against copy documents
- Irrevocable L/C at sight from a recognised bank
- For long-term buyers, other terms can be discussed once there’s a track record
We quote FOB, CFR or CIF to your port. If you’re not sure which is better for you, the ICC Incoterms rules explain who pays for what.
Quality Checks Before Loading
Every lot of bulk rice for sale is tested in our warehouse before packing. We check broken percentage, moisture, chalky kernels, purity, foreign matter and smell. Then an independent surveyor checks it again when the containers load.
Most buyers name SGS, Intertek or Bureau Veritas. The surveyor draws samples, checks bag weights, watches the loading and seals, and issues a certificate of quality, weight and packing. Our post on finding a rice supplier with SGS inspection explains how this works step by step. Our own process is on the quality control page.
Shipping
We ship bulk rice for sale from Bangkok and Laem Chabang to ports in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, the Americas and the Pacific. Rough transit times:
- Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and China: 5 to 15 days
- Gulf and Red Sea ports: 15 to 25 days
- West, East and Southern Africa: 25 to 40 days
- Europe and the UK: 25 to 35 days
- USA, Canada and Latin America: 25 to 45 days
- Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific: 15 to 35 days
Before any bulk rice for sale leaves Thailand, we fumigate the rice and line containers with kraft paper and dry bags to protect against moisture on long routes.
Documents
With every shipment of bulk rice for sale you get:
- Commercial invoice and packing list
- Bill of lading
- Certificate of origin
- Phytosanitary certificate
- Fumigation certificate
- Surveyor’s certificate of quality, weight and packing
- Hom Mali certificate for Hom Mali rice
- Health certificate, certificate of analysis and halal certificate on request
The full list, and which countries ask for what, is in our rice export documents guide.
Choosing the Right Grade of Bulk Rice for Sale
Picking the wrong grade of bulk rice for sale is the most expensive mistake a new importer makes. The rice might be perfectly good, but if it’s not what your customers cook with, it sits in the warehouse.
If your customers want fragrance
Go for Hom Mali if they pay for quality, or jasmine if price matters more. Our comparison of Hom Mali vs jasmine rice explains the difference you’ll actually taste.
If they cook long dishes like stews and jollof
Parboiled rice is usually the answer. It holds its shape and doesn’t go mushy. See parboiled rice vs white rice.
If price is everything
White rice 25% broken or 100% broken A1 Super. Same rice, just more broken grains, at a lower price per ton. See what broken rice is used for.
If they want biryani style long grains
Basmati is the classic. We source and pack it too. Our post on jasmine rice vs basmati rice helps if you’re deciding between the two.
Bulk Rice for Sale in Mixed Containers
Smaller importers often can’t sell 25 tons of one grade fast enough. A mixed container solves that. We can load two or three grades of bulk rice for sale in one 20ft box, for example 10 MT Hom Mali, 10 MT white rice 5% broken and 5 MT sticky rice. Each grade is checked and certified on its own. It costs a bit more in handling, but it keeps your stock fresh and your cash moving.
A Real Example Order
Here’s how a typical order for bulk rice for sale goes with us. Say a wholesaler in the Middle East wants one 20ft container of Thai parboiled rice 5% broken in 25 kg printed bags, CFR their port.
- They send grade, bag, quantity and port. We reply with a firm CFR price and spec sheet the same day or the next.
- We courier a 2 kg sample. They cook it, check the colour and grain.
- We sign a contract that lists every spec point.
- They send a 30% deposit. We order the printed bags.
- About 15 days later the bags are ready. We mill, sort and pack.
- SGS inspects and the container loads. Vessel sails.
- We send draft documents, they check, balance is paid, originals go by courier.
Start to sailing, roughly four weeks. Repeat orders go faster because the bags and artwork are already done.
Mistakes to Avoid When Buying Bulk Rice for Sale
- Buying on price alone. A cheap offer far below the market usually means a different grade, an old crop, or a seller who won’t deliver.
- Vague contracts. “Good quality long grain” means nothing. Put every number in.
- No surveyor. Always have an independent inspection at loading.
- Ignoring the bag. Thin bags burst. Ask for new PP bags with the right weight.
- Forgetting your own import rules. Some countries need permits, special labels or pesticide tests. Check before you order. Our guide on how to import rice from Thailand covers the basics.
Who We Are and How We Work
We buy paddy and milled rice from mills in Thailand’s central plains and the northeast, the two main rice belts. Our team sorts, grades and packs it in our own facilities, and books the freight. Because we handle the rice ourselves, we can tell you which crop it’s from and where it was grown, and we can stop a lot before it ships if it doesn’t look right.
We’re not the biggest exporter in Thailand and we don’t pretend to be. What we offer is the same people looking after your order from the first email to the day the containers are cleared at your end. A lot of our buyers have been with us for ten years or more. You can read our story on the about us page and see our achievements.
Bulk Rice for Sale by Region
Every market likes its rice a little differently. Here’s what we usually ship where.
Africa
West Africa buys a lot of parboiled rice and white rice 5% and 25% broken, mostly in 50 kg bags. East and Southern Africa take more white rice and some fragrant rice. Many buyers pay by L/C, and the bag print needs to be bold and clear. Our guide to parboiled rice import to West Africa covers that market in detail.
Middle East
Gulf buyers want parboiled rice, long grain white rice and Hom Mali, often in 5 kg, 10 kg and 40 kg bags with Arabic text. Halal certificates are standard. See our page on halal certified rice.
Asia and the Pacific
Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and China buy a lot of Hom Mali. Pacific island countries buy white rice in 10 kg to 25 kg bags. Japan and Korea buy sticky rice for food processing.
Europe and the Americas
Buyers here mostly want fragrant rice for Asian groceries and supermarkets, plus brown and organic rice. Labels and pesticide limits are strict, so we check your country’s rules before we pack. If you’re in the US, our guide on FDA requirements for importing rice is a good start, and the USDA rice page tracks world trade.
New Crop or Old Crop?
When you buy bulk rice for sale, the crop year makes a difference, especially for fragrant rice. New crop Hom Mali smells stronger and cooks softer. Old crop, usually six months or more after harvest, is firmer and takes a bit more water. Some markets in Asia love the new crop smell. Restaurants often prefer old crop because the grains stay separate. Neither is better in general. It depends who’s eating it. Our post on old crop vs new crop jasmine rice goes into this properly.
Storing Bulk Rice After Delivery
Once your bulk rice for sale lands, how you store it decides how long it stays good. A few simple habits help a lot.
- Keep bags on pallets, off the floor and a little away from the walls.
- Keep the warehouse cool, dry and aired. Damp is what ruins rice.
- Rotate stock. First in, first out.
- Don’t store rice near fuel, fertiliser or anything with a strong smell.
- Check for insects every few weeks, especially in hot, humid months.
White and parboiled rice keep well for a year or more in good storage. Fragrant rice is best sold within about 12 months of milling, because the smell fades slowly over time.
Private Label Bulk Rice for Sale
Plenty of our buyers sell under their own brand. We can print your design on 1 kg retail packs right up to 50 kg sacks. Send us the artwork, or we can help with a simple layout if you only have a logo. We check that the label has what your country needs: product name, origin, net weight, crop year, importer details and so on. Once the bags are made, repeat orders of private label bulk rice for sale go much faster, since the artwork and plates are already done.
Why Thai Rice
Thai rice usually costs a bit more than Indian or Vietnamese rice. Buyers pay for long, even grains, good milling and fragrant varieties you can’t really get elsewhere. Thailand’s rice has its own long history, which you can read about on Wikipedia’s page on rice production in Thailand. Our post on Thai rice vs Vietnamese rice gets into the trade-offs.
7 Proven Tips for Buying Bulk Rice for Sale
- Know what your market cooks. Grade choice beats price every time.
- Ask for a sample from the actual lot.
- Get a full spec sheet in the contract. Broken, moisture, chalky, purity, crop year.
- Book an independent surveyor. SGS, Intertek or Bureau Veritas.
- Buy close to the source. Fewer middlemen, fewer surprises.
- Time your buying. New crop Hom Mali arrives from November. See Thai rice harvest season.
- Start small, then scale. One or two containers first.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the smallest order?
One 20ft container, about 25 MT. Mixed grades are fine. More on our minimum order page.
Do you have bulk rice for sale in 25 kg bags?
Yes. 25 kg and 50 kg are our most common bulk bag sizes.
Can I visit or send an inspector?
Yes. You’re welcome to visit, or send your own inspector or surveyor.
How fast can you load?
Plain bags, usually 2 to 3 weeks after contract and payment. Printed bags add about 10 to 15 days.
Is your price fixed for the year?
No. Rice is a traded commodity and the price moves with the market. We quote a firm price valid for a few days. For buyers who take regular monthly loads, we can talk about a program with price reviews every month or quarter, so you’re not caught out by big swings.
Can I mix fragrant and white rice in one container?
Yes. Mixed loads are common for smaller importers, and each grade gets its own surveyor certificate.
Do you ship to my country?
We ship worldwide to any port that accepts Thai rice.
